STANTON NOW SHIPPING SCS.3m MIXER CONTROLLER

New compact MIDI controller and software bundle advances SC System 3 to a total control solution

scs3m_angle.jpgStanton DJ, an industry leader in the design and manufacturer of professional audio products for DJs, announced today that they are now shipping the SCS.3m, the next installment in their award-winning, SC System 3 series controllers. The SCS.3m is a portable new MIDI controller with a unique control surface that emulates the layout of a traditional two channel mixer, but is completely touch-sensitive and features the acclaimed StanTouch® technology introduced in its deck controller counterpart, the Stanton SCS.3d. Each SCS.3m will ship with a new version of Native Instruments’ Traktor LE that is based on the latest TRAKTOR PRO software platform, allowing the SC System 3 products to be used together to create a full DJ system with intuitive control over the robust software features introduced with Traktor LE. Using only the SCS.3m, SCS.3d, and Traktor LE, a complete DJ rig with performance control features that surpass the capabilities of traditional mixer/deck equipment can be setup anywhere in the world within minutes.

The SCS.3m incorporates all of the functions of a two channel DJ mixer, plus a host of new performance features made possible by Stanton’s unique touch sensitive control surface. The touch sensitive sliders can be used to tweak EQs, allowing DJs to bring in different elements of a song during a mix, or instantly switch the sliders to control FX parameters within Traktor LE. The wide, touch-sensitive crossfader allows for seamless slow blends between decks, but is also able to detect multiple finger presses, allowing for quick transform effects all in one control surface. The multicolor buttons can easily perform transport controls for starting and stopping playback, setting loops, doing EQ kills, or engaging effects without requiring a separate trigger controller. All of the visual indicators stay 100% in sync with applications supporting MIDI feedback, allowing for clear indication of the software settings and positions in low light situations. Additionally, the unique surface provides a new level of durability, since there are no moving parts to wear or break.

“The SCS.3m is the next step in creating a modular, flexible and scalable control system. It’s always been our vision to make the 3 series a powerful, adaptable, and expandable line of products and the 3m takes the next logical step in providing the mixer analogy to stand next to the 3d”, said Jim Mazur, Stanton’s Director of Product Development.

Every SCS.3m comes with the ability to unlock Native Instrument’s award winning Traktor Pro software. One of the first controllers integrating with the new Traktor LE, the SCS.3m is designed to interface seamlessly with Traktor’s internal mixer, and incorporate full application feedback from Traktor, ensuring complete parity between hardware and software. iTunes® integration, album art support, and broad file compatibility allow for unparalleled music collection browsing and management, so finding and organizing tracks is quick and simple. An advanced tempo detection / synchronization engine enables the DJ to sync the decks for an automatic beat match once music has been loaded into the virtual deck eliminating the traditional challenges of lining up two songs for a mix. For the more accomplished DJ, Traktor LE also opens the door to advanced performance techniques such as dropping FX and looping for live remixing.

The SCS.3m can be used as a standalone controller for basic software mixing, but when paired with the SCS.3d deck controllers, provide a completely mobile MIDI control rig that allows DJs to plug and play anywhere in the world without the traditional hassles. With a built-in powered USB hub, the SCS.3m can also be connected to one or more SCS.3d controllers, offering up a high tech version of a full traditional DJ setup, without weight, size and connectivity issues. Additionally, special custom presets for other popular DJ applications are available for free download on the Stanton website.

For more information on the SCS.3m, other products in the SC System family, or Stanton’s full line of traditional DJ equipment, please visit www.stantondj.com and www.enterthesystem.com.

CERWIN VEGA! IN POLE POSITION

New Cerwin Vega! Passive Series (CVP Series) debuts at Formula One British Grand Prix

cvp121.jpegThe recently launched Cerwin Vega! CVP passive series of speakers made its UK debut at the Formula One British Grand Prix at Silverstone.

The CVP series was selected by Rory Chaplin of RJCC Events for the star-studded three day event which saw numerous bands and DJ’s perform alongside guest appearances from renowned F1 commentator Murray Walker, Fifth Gear’s Vicki Butler-Henderson and comedian Bobby Davro.

“We considered several different systems from a number of manufacturers but following extensive listening tests with the organizers and working with Cerwin Vega! on system design it was clear that the new CVP system stood out as the right choice for this event. If you have ever heard the noise created by Formula One cars you would know that the PA had to work hard under demanding conditions and be seriously loud! The new boxes provided high SPL and truly amazing deep bass, flawlessly for three days solid”, said Rory Chaplin, RJCC’s Owner. “As a growing company it was also important for us to look ahead and from a hire perspective it’s an extremely flexible and easy setup with huge power and clarity”.

The system used comprised of six CVP-2153 dual 15-inch full range tops and eight JE-36c subwoofers all powered by EV amplifiers for the 2500 capacity venue. The amplification and system setup was handled by Andy Collins from Eclipse Sound & Light in Ipswich and Chris Penney, Cerwin Vega!’s European product specialist. As soon as Andy heard the system he was so impressed that he arranged to take a similar setup for Eclipse’s busy summer festival season.

“During setup I was amazed at how little EQ the system required. We managed to get great coverage from a small number of boxes and despite being played loud the system had a real hi-fi quality”, said Andy from Eclipse Sound & Light.

Jamie Ward, Cerwin Vega!’s UK Sales Director, comments: “We are really excited by the response to our new flagship range of loudspeakers. They are getting noticed by some major players in the pro audio business and it’s great that the first outing in the UK was at such a prestigious event as Formula One”.

KRK SYSTEMS NOW SHIPPING THE R6 PASSIVE STUDIO MONITOR

New Monitor’s look and performance based on industry-standard Rokit monitors

KRK Systems, the world’s leading manufacturer of powered recording monitors are pleased to announce they are now shipping the R6 passive studio monitor. The R6 incorporates design cues from KRK’s best selling Rokit line, including radically radiused edges along the front of the cabinet.

Since 2004 Rokit monitors have provided thousands of musicians, songwriters, producers and remixers with a value-priced monitor that delivered meaningful mixes that translate to all listening environments. The R6, like its Rokit brethren, remains true to this legacy, providing a sleeker, more modern look that is as functional as it is beautiful. A key component to the new look is the molded front baffle. This design feature virtually eliminates diffraction distortion caused by standard flat baffles.

The R6 leverages KRK’s research and development into baffle design and fabrication. The curved front baffle was engineered to minimize diffraction of high-frequencies, resulting in a sweet spot that is significantly larger than products with square or lightly rounded baffles. The baffle also houses a molded front-facing bass port that minimizes low-frequency phase distortion and unwanted frequency emphasis typical of rear-facing bass ports. The end result is a harmonious yet accurate blend of low and high-frequency components that result in a more accurate speaker. The R6 voicing is designed to mimic the voicing of KRK’s Rokit 6 monitor, which is renowned for its accuracy and mid-range clarity. The R6 features 5-way speaker binding posts, a precision crossover and is capable of handling 100 watts (RMS) of power.

“While powered monitors make up the majority of the studio monitor business, there is still demand for passive monitors. The R6 addresses the needs of broadcasters, project studios and home enthusiasts by providing legendary KRK precision and accuracy in a passive speaker,” said Tony Rodrigues, Vice-President of Marketing for KRK Systems.

The new R6 is available now at leading music retailers around the world.
